I started Carnal Embrace in mid-September of 2006. I needed to take matters in my own hands.
I was unhappy with the most recent Sex on Tuesday column, the weekly sex column in Berkeley's student-run newspaper, The Daily Californian. I had wanted to apply for the column the following year, but, well, I kinda missed the deadline on that one. Oops. That's okay, I guess could sit one out and polish up some sample columns.
That's when I decided to produce my own sex "columns" on the blog and then pester my friends to read them.
My first post, on the taint, was a sample column I had written during the summer. Perhaps a nice little anatomy lesson would be an effective way to ease into sex-saturation.
Somewhere around the October/November cusp, Carnal Embrace was picking up. The blog was getting between 500 and 2,000 hits a week. I was excited. In my pants. Especially excited that visitors from all over the globe were gracing my blog. There were people from Berkeley, from the west coast, from the east coast, from all over Europe, and even from Singapore. Not surprisingly, there was no one from the Midwest. No one has sex in the Midwest.
The blog format allows me to create a forum for a discussion on sex. It's more than just a one-way column. It's a soap box, both for me and her readers. I like getting immediate and direct feedback. I like the array of opinions, the differing views each reader shares. Sex, for me, is not an absolute truth. It is different for each individual and each experience.
For that very reason, sex needs context. I hope that the Carnal Embrace blog has provided a sort of context. I also hope I will get laid soon. Very soon.
